Caring for the environment plays an important role in our work here at Dunlossit.  We operate a number of conservation schemes as well as contributing to sustainable and renewable energy sources.

Conservation Schemes

Our current conservation schemes include the extensive planting of native trees within our forestry management, mosaic habitat management for rare marsh fritillary butterflies, peatland restoration and the deployment of Highland cattle on the hill to help further improve vegetation. An annual programme of bracken control through both helicopter and ground-based spraying is also carried out.

Renewable Energy

Three biomass woodchip boiler systems supplying heat and hot water to a number of our housing tenants.

We have two micro hydro schemes currently operational which supplies electricity to our quarry and domestic properties.
